B&G has been providing perimeter security
to transportation company GVT for over 10
years

"We know each other very
well"
"A reliable specialist in perimeter
security, with expertise and experience in the transportation
sector." This is how Dennis Vogels of Van Heijst & Vogels
Bouwmanagement, describes B&G Entrance Control. And he is the
one to know. In his position of building manager of the Tilburg
transportation company GVT, he has been working with B&G for
over ten years now. This year, Vogels asked B&G to realize the
perimeter security for two new expansions of GVT in the town of
Tilburg.
GVT is a transportation company
based in Tilburg which focuses on transporting freight by road,
water and rail. In 2011, they expanded their activities in Tilburg
by constructing a second rail terminal of 2.3 hectares and a second
logistic centre of 16,700 m2 including a 1,000
m2 office. A wide range of B&G security solutions
have been installed on the total building site of 35,000 m2.
Fencing
"We take care of the entire
construction and unburden GVT in doing so," says Dennis Vogels.
"From the design phase to the realization and implementation.
Everything but the construction itself." Using maps and artist's
impressions, he explains how he facilitates the exclusive
accessibility for authorized traffic to the GVT premises.
He starts with the fencing. "The
premises are fenced off by three different types of fence, of 2.40
meters high each", says Vogels. "We chose vertical bar fencing with
a black coating for spots that are well visible. This particular
type of fencing offers strong shielding/protection from public
areas and also looks prettier than for example chain link
fencing"
Where the site borders the adjacent
Fuji premises, chain link fencing suffices, according to
Vogels. "Our neighbours have also secured their own site very
well", he explains. Since well-secured neighbouring premises are
absent at the new rail terminal, this site will be fenced off with
over 1,800 meters of welded mesh panel. Vogels explains his choice
for this less luxurious version: "Qualitatively, it is just as
solid as vertical bar fencing and aesthetics is of lesser
importance at the specific location."
Entrance
The sites are made accessible by
using various types of B&G gates, turnstiles and pillars. From
and to the new parking lots for trucks and staff, pedestrian
traffic will be controlled by two Kaba turnstiles of which B&G
is the exclusive dealer. Freight traffic reaches the site by means
of Speed-Liners. These fast B&G sliding gates enable trucks to
enter and leave the site quickly and ensure that the gate will
never be open for longer than an absolutely necessary period of
time.
Access to the sites is controlled
by an access control system that is also provided by B&G.
Vogels: "We are already using this system in the other GVT
branches. Since it is convenient to use one system for the entire
access control of all branches we have applied it here as
well."
To prevent unwanted persons from
entering the premises by passing through or climbing over the
fence, the entire fence is equipped with B&G PulseGuard,
including the gates. The voltage wires, installed along the entire
height and length of the fence, scare burglars away by giving a
brief shock when touched. If the wires are tampered with, the
system sets of an alarm automatically.
Co-operation
Van Heijst & Vogels
Bouwmanagement and B&G Entrance Control have been working
together for their client GVT for over ten years. According to
Vogels, this is partially the case because the price and quality of
the products are doing well in the market. "Back in the days, we
chose B&G based on those criteria and this still is a factor",
says Vogels. What distinguishes B&G is their willingness to
think along from the design phase onwards. He gives an
example: "For the access to the sites, I initially drew a
combination of sliding gates and barriers. B&G advised us to
use the Speed-Liner, which is more appropriate from both a
financial and a security point of view."
Moreover, the pace with which the
project needs to be realized also plays a role in choosing B&G.
"The new premises should be ready for use within five months", says
Vogels. "Normally this takes 12 months. However, we know that
B&G has the necessary assembly teams at hand, which enables
them to guarantee that the project will be finished in time."
In addition, the building manager
finds it pleasant to be able to rely on a trusted partner. "The
quality is guaranteed and we know what to expect from each other,"
says Vogels. "Because we have been cooperating for over ten years
now, we know each other very well."
